About this module
Common questions about this module
What is in a backup?
The complete database, every uploaded file and attachment, avatars and logos, the source code of all installed modules, and the version details of FreeScout and the modules – all in one archive. A helpdesk is more than its database, and after an outage what is missing is exactly what nobody thought of.
How do I know a backup really restores?
A backup file on its own is no guarantee. That is why the module checks the archive itself at the press of a button: integrity, version details, the presence of the database dump, the completeness of the module directories, and clean extraction in a test environment. With the necessary permission the database dump is additionally imported into a temporary test database – without touching your running installation.
What do I do if FreeScout no longer starts?
There is a standalone restore assistant for that. FreeScout does not need to be preinstalled on the target server; the assistant walks you through checking the server environment, choosing the archive, setting up the database and restoring.
Can I encrypt the backups?
Yes. With an archive password set, new backups are fully encrypted with AES-256-GCM – which matters as soon as an archive travels to someone else's server. To restore one you then need exactly two things: the archive and the password.
What happens if I restore the wrong archive?
Before every restore the module automatically creates an extra backup of the current state. Only then are the database, application files and modules replaced.
Does the module need other modules?
No. The Backup module runs on its own.
